Days ago we rang in the New Year. I remember when I was little, and the year "2017" only existed in movies with a future that was so far ahead of us. And now it is upon us. It's amazing how fast the time goes by…
A Season of Preparation
Advent is a season of preparing. Hoping. Longing. Waiting. Advent reminds us of what—of WHO—we desire in the deepest place in our hearts. The season of Advent coincides with the pre-Christmas frenzy, where our attention is pulled toward the material world that cunningly robs us of the transcendent invitation: to experience anew just how viscerally we long for a Savior.
Advent is more than a reminder. It’s a crucial step on the Christian journey of Faith that allows us to prepare our hearts for the fruition of something beyond tradition or ideal. We receive our Savior in flesh, the reality of whom changes everything about our relationship to God the Father and our circumstance relative to sin and death. These are the realities we seek to convey and experience through the songs we’ve composed for Advent.
“By delaying his gift, God strengthens our desire; through desire he enlarges our soul and by expanding it he increases its capacity for receiving him.” - St. Augustine
