If music is meant to unify the prayer of the church, why does it so often divide us?

Music is an extraordinary gift from God that helps us access the depths of our hearts and join as a community that participates together in the song of heaven. Yet so often that gift becomes the dividing line of a parish or home. Do drums belong in the Mass? Can we understand what we’re singing if we pray in Latin? Does the Catholic Church have a talent problem? Is the music at my parish turning people away? How do we transmit the Catholic faith in the home through music as past generations did?
